US case against Huawei CFO revealed in Canadian court

Gambar
The United States is claiming that the chief financial officer of Chinese tech giant Huawei covered up violations of sanctions on Iran, according to Canadian prosecutors. Meng Wanzhou, who was  arrested in Vancouver  and faces extradition to the United States, is believed to have helped Huawei circumvent US sanctions by telling financial institutions that a Huawei subsidiary was a separate company, prosecutors said at a hearing Friday to determine whether Meng should be released on bail. Her lawyer said that she has ties to Canada and is not a flight risk. The judge, after hearing arguments from Meng's lawyer and prosecutors, did not rule on bail. The hearing will resume Monday at 1 p.m. ET. Previously, details surrounding why Meng, 46, had been detained were limited due to a press ban. A judge had accepted Meng's request to bar both police and prosecutors from releasing information about the case prior to the hearing. The ban was lifted on Friday. A judge in the

After years of facing suspicion from US authorities, Huawei is now standing trial for fraud. Today, a bail hearing was held for Huawei’s chief financial officer, who was arrested in Canada on Saturday at the request of US law enforcement. The CFO, Meng Wanzhou, is facing extradition to the US for conspiring to defraud banking institutions, according to  The Star Vancouver . Many lined up to see Meng’s bail hearing today, after the extremely high-profile arrest that signified the first major break in a US probe that has mostly been kept from the public. Meng happens to be the daughter of Huawei’s founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei, a former People’s Liberation Army engineer whose connection to the Chinese Communist Party has contributed to the suspicions of US intelligence agencies. Meng also serves as deputy chair on Huawei’s board. The US has an arrest warrant out for Meng that was issued by a New York court on August 22nd. It has 60 days from the time of Meng’s arrest on Saturday to

Green Book Has Great Acting, a Misleading Title and Palatable Racism for White People

Gambar
When I sat down to watch the movie  Green Book , I was expecting to get a visual education on the historical use of  The Negro Motorist Green Book  by Victor Hugo Green. Green published the guidebook from 1936 to 1966 for black travelers in the Jim Crow era whose trips took them through areas that were openly racist and discriminatory toward black people. This film was not about the actual  Green Book . In fact, the actual  Green Book  is more of a day player or under-fiver in this film. The film  Green Book  is a dramatization of the real-life friendship formed between Dr. Don Shirley—a Jamaican-American world-class pianist—and Tony Vallelonga, an Italian-American night club bouncer from New York City who Shirley hires to be his personal driver and bodyguard during a concert tour that takes him through the Jim Crow South. In her review for Shadow and Act , writer Brooke Obie calls the film a “poorly titled white savior film” that centers white people in a black story. She pans

Maui Invitational: Duke Looks Scary on Off Night, Gonzaga Sets Up Marquee Matchup With Blue Devils

Gambar
There’s not a team in college basketball that can be reasonably expected to beat Duke—if it happens, it will come by shock or not at all—but coming into Tuesday’s Maui Invitational semifinal there was some sense that eighth-ranked Auburn had a puncher’s chance. The Tigers feature an athletic, tough cast, blitz opponents with energy and love to bomb from outside. It’s no use for anyone running with Duke, but if Auburn could scramble effectively in transition and make enough timely shots, there was a pathway to keeping it close. To nobody’s surprise, that was decidedly not how this thing went down. The Blue Devils took a punch or two, and it wasn’t all smooth sailing, but an impressive, unified showing (from a team driven by freshmen, no less) made a world of difference in a 78–72 victory. Whenever Auburn strung together positive plays, there was an adequate answer, and though an absurd free throw discrepancy (they shot just nine to their opponent’s 32) was a major factor, Duke’s co

Ralph Breaks the Internet

Disney’s follow-up to its wonderful 2012 animated film  Wreck-It Ralph  is as gleefully self-aware as its predecessor. Once again, Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly), Vanellope (Sarah Silverman), and their video game character buddies find themselves embarking on a new adventure. But this time, their purview has changed — after finding a wifi router in their arcade, no longer are they journeying through video games, but through the whole internet. Just as the first film effectively captured the energy and fun of video games,  Ralph Breaks the Internet  exhibits an uncanny sense for what powers the internet itself — everything from search engines to comments sections to pop-up ads to social media. But it’s especially deft at skewering Disney and its many franchise properties, from  Star Wars  to the Disney Princesses. It’s a truly funny romp with a heart, and something to offer everyone in the audience.

e coli symptoms

Overview Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria normally live in the intestines of healthy people and animals. Most varieties of E. coli are harmless or cause relatively brief diarrhea. But a few particularly nasty strains, such as E. coli O157:H7, can cause severe abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea and vomiting. You may be exposed to E. coli from contaminated water or food — especially raw vegetables and undercooked ground beef. Healthy adults usually recover from infection with E. coli O157:H7 within a week, but young children and older adults have a greater risk of developing a life-threatening form of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome. Symptoms Signs and symptoms of E. coli O157:H7 infection typically begin three or four days after exposure to the bacteria, though you may become ill as soon as one day after to more than a week later. Signs and symptoms include: Diarrhea, which may range from mild and watery to severe and bloody Abdominal cramping, pain o
